This bill provides that a person who has been required to register as a sex offender under another jurisdiction’s sexual offender registration law is required to register in Rhode Island as a sex offender.

Currently, it is provided that the identifying information of a juvenile sex offender shall not be listed on the RI State Police and RI Unified Court System website. This bill would amend the law to provide that juvenile sexual offender information may be posted on the website once the juvenile reaches the age of 21.

This bill would amend the current law that provides that those convicted of an offense requiring registration shall not have to register unless the offense was committed after the effective date of July 1, 1992. This bill would amend that provision by striking language “committed after the effective date” to assure that all persons convicted of a crime that requires registration will be required to register regardless of when the offense was committed.
